Two and a half years after the devastating fire that burned it to the ground, the new Mozirska Hut on Golteh opened its doors a few weeks ago, immediately becoming one of the most beautiful mountain huts in our country.
Thanks to the great sacrifices and efforts of the local Mountaineering Association Mozirje, the mountaineering community, numerous volunteers, and donors, the new Mozirska Hut is also a symbol of unity, cooperation, and new hope for mountaineering in Mozirje. The Mozirska Hut is open again.
"The opening was very joyful, although the hut is not yet fully completed; a burden has been lifted from our shoulders that we have finally opened it. A huge crowd gathered, more than a thousand people, and we happily showed them how the building was made and where they donated their money, as the hut belongs to everyone," said the president of PD Mozirje, Boštjan Goličnik, who oversaw the reconstruction of the popular mountain hut, which "should be a symbol of unity, cooperation, and new hope for mountaineering in Mozirje."
President of the Alpine Association of Slovenia Jože Rovan emphasized in his speech the unfortunate fact that local mountaineers have lost three huts at the same location, all destroyed by fire. Nevertheless, looking at one of the most beautiful Slovenian mountain huts, he dedicated the acquisition to all mountaineering enthusiasts of the Upper Savinja Valley: "If I were bold, I might think it's even good that the old hut was destroyed, so that this beautiful mountain villa, a modern, as fire-safe as possible building, has now grown here. I wish all locals and gathered mountaineers to frequently use this excellent hut, and those employed in it to have excellent working conditions."
Construction cost nearly one million euros
"A broader community got involved, not just mountaineers, but also locals, farmers involved in alpine pastures to whom the hut means a lot. The hut was always well-visited, so there was great interest in help from the municipality as well; we worked broadly to secure funds, companies, cooperatives, individuals donated. We received funds from the economic ministry's call, and the insurance company approved 100% insurance coverage. If construction cost increases hadn't marked the build, we would have covered the investment financially, but everything increased by about one hundred thousand euros, for which we had to take a loan, even though we rationalized a lot and always sought cheaper solutions," explains Goličnik. The construction of the new hut cost just under one million euros, of which they collected 200,000 euros in donations, obtained 300,000 euros from the then Ministry of Economic Development and Technology call, 400,000 euros from the insurance company for damages, and took a bank loan for the remainder.
