New hiking trail to Razor opened

30.09.2013
New section of the hiking trail to Razor (2601 m) from Planja saddle (2349 m) constructed

The hiking trail to the summit of Razor (2601 m) in the Julian Alps, which was closed from the beginning of July due to a major rockfall on the top right next to the trail and threatened hikers with falling rocks in the lower section, had to be relocated to a safer location. This required obtaining consent from the landowner Municipality of Bovec, consent and joint inspection from TNP, and consents from the Institute for the Protection of Natural and Cultural Heritage and the Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for the Environment for the legal relocation of the new trail section. The Radovljica Mountaineering Association obtained these consents during that time, allowing work to start despite autumn.

In the past few days, the PZS Commission for Hiking Trails (KPP PZS) and the Radovljica Mountaineering Association (PD Radovljica), with help from a Slovenian Army helicopter that carried approx. 300 kg of material and equipment to the Razor ridge along with PZS path markers, cleared the lower scree section of the trail as well as the final part toward the summit and newly marked them. The central section, the vertical passage through the chimney technically constructed and equipped by members of the KPP PZS technical team, is now fitted with a steel cable and ladder pegs.

Hikers are informed that the hiking trail to Razor (2601 m) from Planja saddle (2349 m) is OPEN again.

We warn all that the new section is very demanding and USE OF CLIMBING HARNESS, VIA FERRATA KIT, AND PROTECTIVE HELMET IS MANDATORY.

Please forward this information and warning further.

Many thanks.

The Radovljica Mountaineering Association thanks the landowner Municipality of Bovec, Triglav National Park, the Nova Gorica Institute for the Protection of Natural and Cultural Heritage, and the Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for the Environment for their attention and for providing the mentioned consents as quickly as possible. It also thanks the Slovenian Army for the helicopter transport and PZS path markers for the work done.
