On 10.6.1997, five mountain rescuers were fatally injured on Okrešelj below Turska gora.
It was a Tuesday when the mountain rescuers were practicing how to lift a rescuer and an injured person using a helicopter rescue bag, steel cable, and winch. The accident occurred when five rescuers were in the air (tethered to the helicopter by a rope). Due to a failure (the helicopter was tied to an anchor in the wall), the rope did not hold, and the mountain rescuers fell into the depths.
In memory of all five victims (
Jani Kokalj, Mitja Brajnik, Rado Markič, Luka Karničar and Boris Mlekuž), a memorial plaque was erected on Okrešelj.
