On 10 November 2009, Slovenian alpinist Tomaž Humar died. Humar was an experienced alpinist, as he had climbed more than 70 first ascent routes, including the south face of Dhaulagiri. In 1996, he also received the Golden Ice Axe award for the ascent of Ama Dablam. His last ascent ended tragically - he was trapped for 6 days on the Himalayan mountain Langtang Lirung, and when rescuers reached him, they found him dead. He was 40 years old.
