Passability of Mangart Road

Dear visitors, due to a rockfall and high danger of falling rocks and boulders onto the roadway in the area below Rdeča skala (around 100 m high overhanging wall), traffic in the last kilometer of Mangart Road (12 km) is not safe.

Currently, a small replacement parking area is arranged in the last hairpin bend below Rdeča skala. Limited parking is also possible before the last tunnel, on the lay-bys along the road, and in front of the mountain hut. Pedestrian access to Mangart Saddle is possible via the marked hiking trail past the Koča na Mangrtskem sedlu (1906 m).



Visitors are informed that with a possible increase in visitors during peak periods, they may be left without parking space. Traffic is permitted only for passenger cars and motorcycles up to a height of 2.0 m. For your own safety, we kindly ask you to respect the limited use of the road.



The road has been open since 1 July 2013, but traffic is permitted only up to the last hairpin bend below Rdeča skala, where a traffic sign prohibiting traffic for all vehicles has been erected. An information sign about the road closure is also placed at the road junction at the Predel viaduct.



The amount of the ECOLOGICAL TAX collected by Razvojna zadruga Mangrt remains unchanged at 5.00 EUR per motor vehicle.
