Mountains have been the stage for Slovenians' stories, legends, and myths since time immemorial, later also bearers of national identity and a mirror of a certain era. When mountaineering words began to be recorded in Planinski vestnik 130 years ago, they gained a permanent form; and when they moved to the film strip, they acquired their face, movement, and voice. This month's theme is dedicated to this connection - mountaineering film as an extension of the written mountaineering word.
The central place of this issue's theme in the January Planinski vestnik is proudly dedicated to a new documentary film that will depict the story of Planinski vestnik. It not only narrates about our oldest still-publishing magazine, but primarily about the community of people with similar interests, volunteering, and perseverance. It speaks of the qualities and values that all mountaineers should possess, who do not perceive mountains merely as a free gym in nature, but as a good given to us, towards which we are obliged to behave responsibly.
The film ZaPisane gore, created in a time of rapid visual images and great fragility of printed media, is simultaneously a document of the present time and an archive for the future. With it, Planinski vestnik deliberately steps into the film space for the first time to present to the public the story of resilience that has survived, hmm, if we are completely precise, eight different countries or regimes.
The introductory conversation is with screenwriter Mojca Volkar Trobevšek, who recounts how demanding and intimate the process of creating a documentary film is. Her words convey the awareness that a film is not merely a technical product, but a responsibility to history, to people, and to the common project. Like the magazine, the film arises from dedication, often beyond paid work, and with the belief that it is worth telling future generations about our mountains.
The second interview is with Tomaž Žganar, alpinist, mountain rescuer, and a man of many talents, also the author of three books, the last being Zaplezane zgodbe, with his fourth book before publication.
We write about the first alpinistic film on our soil - that is the film Triglavske strmine, and about the writer and screenwriter of Triglavske strmine, Janez Jalen. Interesting and heartfelt is the story V iskanju macesnov, the photo story about greeting the sun through Prednje Prisojnikovo okno excites. Here is also an original story: Distopija gora, which in a different way shows what we really do not want in the mountains. We also write about the highest PZS awards for 2025 and about Bojan Pollak, recipient of the title of honorary member of PZS.
There are also other interesting articles that make us think, transport us to wonderful peaks. You will also find mini instructions (in image and word) for e-reading the digital Planinski vestnik.
In the Z nami na pot section, we wander and ski tour in the Grossarl valley in the Radstadtskih Turah and invite you to Penkopf (2011 m), Filmoorshörndl (2189 m), Gamskarkogel (2467 m), and Kreuzeck (2204 m).
Followed by regular sections: Planinčkov kotiček, knowledge (about winter traps in the mountains and about the professional conference Gore in varnost 2025), weather (about lightning from a clear sky), literature, film, mountaineering organization, news, and in memoriam.
I invite you to subscribe to the magazine. Because the oldest Slovenian magazine still publishing will hardly preserve itself without a loyal base of readers >>> spletna naročilnica.
We wish you pleasant reading of Planinski vestnik and
a safe and happy step on all your paths!
