And here is this year's double issue, July-August 2026. The theme of the month is the forgotten alpinist Anna Escher (1894-1986), who between the two wars achieved an enviable number of alpine ascents at home and around the world, many of them first ascents. Although she climbed with the most eminent climbers of her time and was active for many years alongside her younger contemporaries Pavla Jesihova and Mira Marko Debelakova, today only a few know about her.
With this issue of Planinski vestnik, our editor-in-chief Vladimir Habjan has completed 25 exceptionally successful years of editorship. In this issue you can also read his editorial, which is already the hundredth. In it he sheds light on the work in the editorial office that has strongly marked him. We can only say: "Hats off, Haubi! Bravo and all congratulations and many more excellent issues of Vestnik!"
In this issue you can read three interviews.
The first is with the newly elected president of the Alpine Association of Slovenia Martin Šolar, who has been involved in the mountaineering organization and events at various levels and in related organizations for many years. What he will advocate for, what his work plans are and what he will not give up on, what he will fight for, you will find out in this issue of Vestnik. He also says that he will do everything to ensure that the printed Vestnik remains.
In the second interview, our guest was the long-time mountain rescuer and doctor dr. Peter Najdenov, who says that in the mountains you learn that there is no room for panic. He shared with us his rich experiences, medical insights and rescue stories.
The third interview is with Irena Šisernik, former caretaker of the Dom na Peci, connoisseur of the mountaineering world and also a cook who cooked with all her soul, which certainly gave the dishes a special touch.
We celebrate 100 years of the Alpine Botanical Garden Juliana in Trenta, and with the world's best climber Janja Garnbret we rejoice in her two new milestones.
In the section With us on the trail we invite you to the Carnic Alps, to the mountain world on the southern side of Forni di Sopra; and to four imposing peaks in the Julian Alps. And which mountains and trails are these that we invite you to? Here they are: Monte Chiarescons (2168 m), Traverse on trail no. 373, Circular tour above the Flaiban-Pacherini hut, Cimon di Agar (1932 m) and Škrlatica (2740 m), Mangart (2679 m), Visoki Kanin (2587 m) and Rjavina (2532 m)
We went to the oldest national park in the world, Yellowstone in the USA, we write about the experience on Monte Agner, we wander under the Muzci, on Pag, through the Karavanke and on the mountain giant Grossglockner / Veliki Klek. We delve into mountaineering history with the Bamberg trail to Triglav and 40 years ago, when the legendary climbing competition Marjan
'86 was organized. We write about the Day of Slovenian Mountaineers, which was dedicated to the young
As is already traditional, the double summer issue will delight you with two three-page photographs. The author of both is Gregor Kresal.
On one are the mountains on the western horizon: in front Trentski Pelc and Srebrnjak, behind Pelci and Loška stena, behind them the group Viša and Montaža, left Kanin, pyramid in the mist - Amariana; in the background the giants of the Dolomites: from the left Civetta, Pelmo, Marmolada, Antelao, Sorapiss, Cristallo; on the far left are Duranno and Cima dei Preti.
On the second three-page photograph is Ostrica Cimon della Pala above the Passo Role saddle.
In the Health section we write about improvised immobilization that really works (part 1) and also about how to react, proceed (not only equipment - knowledge counts!) and what must be in every mountaineer's backpack in case immobilization is needed.
Also following are the regular sections: Planinček's corner, Literature and Mountaineering Organization (activities of PZS, 53rd meeting of border and upper Sava PDs, Fire safety of mountain huts, Project inPlaninec received European recognition, Janja to record 50th victory).
