Planinski Vestnik, March 2025
18.03.2025
In this year's third issue of our magazine Planinski vestnik, we bring you interesting reading about Jože Abram on the 150th anniversary of his birth. "He was one of the noblest men," wrote author Majda Debeljak in the introduction to the theme of the month. Jože Abram (1875-1938) was little-known but an important Slovene who marked his era and left a deep mark especially among the Primorska people. As a priest, he served in Trenta, while also being an enthusiastic mountaineer, alpine writer, poet, translator, playwright, and national awakener. His circle included both the mountain guides of the time and dr. Julius Kugy.
We conducted the first interview with Ladislav Jirásk, a great friend of Slovenia and lover of Slovenian mountains; the second is with Radek Jaroš, a Czech alpinist who is the only Czech with the Himalayan crown—that is, all 14 eight-thousanders and the world crown with the highest peaks of all seven continents.
We write about the memorial park on Šmarna gora, follow the traces of trolls, witches, and giants on the Faroe or Sheep Islands, wander the "plains" of Črna gora, report on winners and impressions from the 19th mountain film festival, publish a travelogue from the wonderful Lake Como and its surroundings (we too wondered if the author met the famous actor George Clooney), then jump back to domestic huts from Črnivec to Menina planina, write about the 18th alpine conference in Slovenia, various experiences, a mini alpine kingdom, and publish a comment on the running spectacle.
In the "With us on the trail" section, we invite you again on skis to the Zirknitz valley in the Goldberg group—following the traces of former gold miners, as last time the goblin tricked us and all suggestions had the same map; this time we publish the correct ones. Here are variously demanding ski touring tours: to Windischscharte (2717 m), the three-thousander Sandkopf (3090 m), Sandfeldkopf (2920 m), and Moharkreuz (2448 m).
Followed by regular rubrics: this time two comics (about dr. Julius Kugy and Orožnova koča), a column, Planinček's corner (about the white-headed one or the terrible night spirit), health (about how (un)safe slippers are in huts), literature, mountaineering organization.
We wish you pleasant reading of Planinski vestnik and
safe and happy steps on all your paths!
