Press release on the death of alpinist Luka Šinkovec

The Alpine Association of Slovenia announces that on Friday, July 31, 2020, in the afternoon, Luka Šinkovec, a member of the alpine camp of young promising alpinists, suffered a fatal accident. He was a member of the Zgornjesavinjski Alpinistični Klub Rinka







The Alpine Association of Slovenia announces that in the north face of Wartstein mountain (1758 m) in the Reiteralm range in Germany, while climbing roped, 24-year-old senior alpinist trainee Luka Šinkovec (member of Zgornjesavinjski Alpinistični Klub Rinka), who attended the alpine camp of Slovenian promising alpinists together with other alpinists, suffered a fatal accident.



Luka fell roped and, although his climbing partner held the fall, sustained such severe injuries that he died at the scene of the accident.



The local mountain rescue service intervened, transporting the body of the deceased and the alpinist who was roped with Luka to the valley. The Alpine Association of Slovenia is arranging the transport of the deceased to his homeland and the safe return of the other camp members.
