Prisojnik Fatal for a Pole

8.06.2010
On Sunday around 7 p.m., an accident occurred in the mountains that was fatal for a 49-year-old Pole.

The climber and a 46-year-old Polish woman got lost and wedged while returning from the summit of Prisojnik. The Pole fell approximately 70 meters down rocks and scree and lay dead in a rocky gully, as reported today by the Nova Gorica Police Administration.

The Polish climbers had left Vršič for the summit of Prisojnik in the morning. They were returning over the summit of Prisojnik via the demanding hiking path through the second window and got lost and wedged in the southern face of the mountain. While climbing pathless terrain at around 1850 meters above sea level, the climber's handhold broke. He fell approximately 70 meters down rocks and scree and lay dead in a rocky gully.

Good weather will attract many people to the mountains. Venture there properly equipped, monitor the weather forecast, and above all, do not overestimate your abilities. Start the season with easier hikes.

Members of the Bovec Mountain Rescue Service and the helicopter unit of the Slovenian Army participated in the rescue and search for the Polish climbers, transporting the deceased climber and the uninjured woman to the Trenta valley, police added.
