Prosecutor's office dismisses criminal complaint after serious accident on Mali Mojstrovka

The Nova Gorica prosecutor's office has dismissed the criminal complaint for causing general danger in the case of the mountain accident on Mali Mojstrovka last April, where an avalanche carried five hikers from a guided group into the depths. The police filed the criminal complaint against the tour leader and the Jeti Sports Association, which organized the expedition.
The Nova Gorica prosecutor's office has now dismissed the criminal complaint, reports Dnevnik. As they write, the prosecutor's office first requested the police to supplement the complaint, ultimately dismissing it, as explained to them by the Nova Gorica prosecutor's office, "due to lack of reasonable suspicion regarding the reported criminal offense".
On April 9 last year, an avalanche in the Mali Mojstrovka area carried away five hikers, three of whom were seriously injured. The extensive and demanding rescue operation lasted more than six hours due to the subsequent deterioration of the weather and the larger number of victims.
Jeti association president Miha Hauptman expressed satisfaction in a response to Dnevnik that the prosecutor's office "despite disinformation that appeared in the media, thoroughly examined all known circumstances of the accident and made a reasonable decision to dismiss the criminal complaint". As he says, the pre-trial procedure also showed that the weather conditions during the ascent were very good.
According to him, the prosecutor's office's decision confirms their claims that the tour leader had fully appropriate knowledge and experience for the ascent, but given the circumstances, could not foresee the avalanche release despite all necessary care.
