Protect the natural jewel: what all is forbidden in Triglav National Park?
Last year, 490 measures were issued in the Triglav National Park area for violations of the Triglav National Park Act and the Nature Conservation Act. If you head to this precious but vulnerable ecosystem, follow simple rules that contribute to preserving Slovenia's pride.
Within Triglav National Park, according to current data, around 7,000 different animal species live. Among them, the most recognizable are chamois, capercaillie, rock ptarmigan, squirrel, otter, golden eagle, marble trout, alpine newt, alpine bullhead, brown bear, alpine chough, pygmy owl... Such diversity is conditioned by diverse climatic conditions, relief variability, geological base, and habitat diversity. Among numerous plants, 19 species of endemic plants grow in Triglav National Park. Among the flora of Triglav National Park, a special place is deserved by Triglav rose, Zois' bellflower, Triglav fritillary, alpine primroses, Clusius' gentian, they list in Triglav National Park. Therefore, it must be preserved, and visitors to this area can also contribute to that.
Impacts on the environmental condition in Triglav National Park are of course diverse, from visitor pressure to motor traffic, not negligible are, for example, climate changes, they list in the Public Institute Triglav National Park. Therefore, in Triglav National Park, they strive with various activities to maintain a favorable status of species and habitat types. Thus, within the park, 134 quiet areas are designated, covering approximately 10,000 ha of surfaces. These are designated areas of exceptional importance for the protection of animal and plant species and habitat types, where visiting (walking outside paved and marked paths, mountaineering) and various activities (air traffic, ski touring, paragliding, poaching, cycling, forestry, agriculture) are temporally and spatially adapted so that disturbances are as minimal as possible, they explain.
Quiet areas are designated based on important habitats for chamois, rock ptarmigan and capercaillie sites, and areas important for the life of squirrel, golden eagle, and marble trout. In addition to the mentioned species, the Pokljuka bogs are also defined as quiet areas. Regimes in these areas (or rules) are coordinated among various stakeholders operating in this space, for example with landowners, various institutes and organizations in the field of nature protection, forest management, mountain visiting, and the like, they explain.
Follow the rules
Before the start of the summer season, JZ TNP also warns about responsible visiting of Triglav National Park, which is especially in the forefront this year, when we commemorate the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the first protected area. Among the most common violations in the summer time are bathing in high-mountain lakes and streams, camping in nature in places not intended for that, and parking and driving in the natural environment. Nature conservation supervisors of Triglav National Park will inform visitors and warn them about appropriate behavior or impose fines for offenses. They will most often be present at those points where they have so far detected the most violations or where their presence will be most needed.
Most visitors to Triglav National Park generally follow the rules of conduct and restrictions, whose goal is to preserve nature and cultural landscape, otherwise they ascertain in TNP. They understand that they are entering a special natural environment and cultural landscape, where the goal of protection is preservation for future generations. In the last year, 490 measures (506 the year before last) were issued in the Triglav National Park area for violations of the Triglav National Park Act and the Nature Conservation Act.
