In this year we continue with the awareness-raising campaign on the harmfulness of using pyrotechnic devices. Positive responses from the past two years show that more and more people are aware that the use of pyrotechnics endangers human safety, disturbs animals and pollutes the environment. In the TNP area, in the natural environment, the use of pyrotechnic devices is not permitted, which is regulated by the Triglav National Park Act, in addition the use of these devices is also regulated by the Act on Explosives and Pyrotechnic Products. In order to further alert and raise awareness among people, Triglav National Park, Alpine Association of Slovenia and CIPRA Slovenia, association for the protection of the Alps, call for support of the campaign Pyrotechnics in Triglav National Park – NO!
There are many arguments proving that the use of pyrotechnic devices does not belong in the national park and in the natural environment in general. It endangers human safety, pollutes the air and environment and is disturbing for wild and domestic animals. Due to the banging, animals become very agitated. Wild animals flee and thus expend additional energy, therefore they need more food, which is not abundant in winter. It is also very stressful for birds that roost near the banging. In addition to the noise, the use of pyrotechnic devices causes additional air pollution, as a lot of toxic particles are released during explosions. Measurements prove that the concentrations of these particles are greatly exceeded precisely on New Year's Eve night. The third negative impact is aesthetic. After the experienced night, it is not nice to wake up to the first New Year's morning, which is "adorned" with remnants of firecrackers and rockets as an ugly reminder of the night's events.
During the Christmas holidays, intensified supervision will also be carried out with the presentation of the competencies and possibilities for action of the TNP nature protection supervisory service in case of violations. With the campaign we draw attention to the fact that the use of pyrotechnic devices in the natural environment in TNP is prohibited and that the use of pyrotechnic devices causes great damage to nature. Entering the new year without banging can be much more magnificent and experiential.
