On the main road G2-101/0232 Ljubelj-Bistrica(Tržič) at km 3,300, a rockfall occurred yesterday afternoon, burying the road over a length of approximately 100 meters. Due to the danger of additional material slippage, the road is closed to traffic. Detour is arranged via Karawanks Tunnel and Jezersko.
The rockfall site is located approximately 200 m above the road, and approx. 25 to 35 m³ of material collapsed. Representatives of the Directorate of the Republic of Slovenia for Infrastructure, the concessionaire, and civil protection, after inspecting the rockfall location, decided to close the road, as a wide crack is visible at the site along with several critical points. After such extensive rockfalls, slope relaxation usually occurs, making additional detachments and material slides possible. Due to the danger of further failures, the road will remain closed to traffic. Detour is possible via Karawanks Tunnel and Jezersko.
Today or tomorrow, aerial photogrammetry of the entire area and geodetic survey of the slope will be carried out. After the analysis and engineering geological assessment, to be performed in the first week after the holidays, it will be easier to determine the scope of remediation and when traffic can be reopened. According to initial estimates, remediation will require measures over approx. 450 meters at an estimated value of 1 million EUR. The road will be closed for approximately one and a half months.
