Snow conditions 12.11.2013

In the mountains it has snowed several times in recent days. In the high mountains up to about 50 cm of snow has fallen, lower down at 1500 m elevation mostly around 15 cm. More snow in the Julian Alps than elsewhere in our mountains. It snowed on mostly bare ground.

Strong north wind on Monday blew the snow completely away in many places and formed wind slabs in lee areas.

The snowpack is mostly soft, crusty in places in the high mountains. Avalanche danger is low, 1st degree.

Conditions are wintry.

Wednesday mostly dry but foggy, Thursday moderately to mostly cloudy. Freezing level will rise to about 2600 m on Wednesday, drop to about 2200 m on Thursday.

Friday snowing again, northeast wind strengthening.
