Snow conditions 14.11.2022

15.11.2022
General danger level - Monday, 14.11.2022
Danger is 1st level on the European five-level scale - LOW.
Main problem:
Danger pattern: Early winter, ground snow

Risk assessment
Avalanche danger is LOW everywhere, 1st level. There is little snow in the mountains. Mainly the risk of slipping on steeper slopes or on ledges where snow can also be wind-drifted. Icy spots in shady areas.

Snow conditions
Snow conditions in the mountains are late autumn. There is little snow, up to around 10 cm. In the high mountains, the snow is frozen, even icy due to daily melting and nightly freezing in previous days. There is mostly no consolidated snow cover. Freezing level is currently at 2000 m a.s.l.

Forecast weather development
In the next few days it will be mostly cloudy. Occasional light precipitation, more likely in the western half of our mountains. On Wednesday, with the passage of a cold front, it will rain everywhere, snow line at elevation between 1600 and 1900 m. Only a few centimetres of snow may fall, as most precipitation will be further south. On Thursday partly clear, on Friday cloudy and foggy again with occasional precipitation, snow line likely dropping below 1500 m a.s.l.

Trend in snow conditions
Until Friday some snow will melt, in shady areas no major changes, there the snow will freeze overnight, so conditions will be demanding. On Friday expect some new snow, but the precipitation amount forecast is still quite unreliable. Perhaps the main precipitation will only be on Saturday.
