New and wind-drifted snow in the high mountains, wet snow avalanches possible in the mid-mountains.
On Thursday and Friday it snowed more abundantly in the mountains. The snow line dropped on Friday, snowfall was stronger in the east of our Alps. Current conditions are demanding.
Moderate to strong northerly wind built larger snow drifts on lee sides. Areas of wind-drifted snow are more dangerous, where even a small load can trigger a larger slab avalanche. Weak layers in the snowpack also pose a problem. If the load exceeds the carrying capacity of deeper weak layers, a deep and large avalanche can be triggered. Such weak layers are abundant especially on slopes above the forest, but not excluded elsewhere.
It has warmed up in the mountains, the height of the zero isotherm will rise on Sunday afternoon and evening to an altitude of around 2500 m. In the mid-mountains, wet snow avalanches will appear due to warming, on steeper slopes gliding avalanches are also possible.

The old snowpack is built from layers of somewhat cohesive snow, which are mostly well bonded together. Deep below the surface in the old snowpack there are several weak layers of facets and rounded grains.
On this base, 50-80 cm of new snow fell in the high mountains during this snowfall. The snow line on Thursday mostly ranged between 1200 m and 1500 m, on Friday it dropped.
Weather
Morning may still be cloudy, during the day partly clear. Weak westerly wind will blow. Temperature at 1500 m around 4 °C, at 2500 m around -1 °C.
Outlook
Snow and weather conditions will be similar in the coming days. Under the influence of warmer weather, the snow will start to transform faster, especially in the mid-mountains.

Due to warming, smaller wet snow avalanches possible
On Thursday and Friday precipitations occurred, outside the highest peaks in the form of rain, which moistened the snowpack. Since the snow line was high, only the highest peaks were covered with snow.

Due to warming, gliding avalanches possible
On Thursday precipitations started to appear, outside the highest peaks in the form of rain. On Friday night precipitations intensified, the snow line dropped quickly, it snowed down to the lowlands. Around peaks, areas of wind-drifted snow may appear, built by moderate to strong northerly wind.
Due to warming, wet snow avalanches are possible, on steeper grassy slopes also gliding avalanches.

There is little old snow base, snow is present only on the highest peaks. During this snowfall, 30-50 cm of new snow fell in higher locations, in the area of the eastern part of Pohorje and Kobanško possibly even a bit more.
