The avalanche danger is currently above about 1800 m elevation MODERATE, level 2, and lower down LOW, level 1. You can trigger a snow avalanche with greater loading of the snow cover in places with windpacked snow. Due to the strong east wind, these have mostly formed on south and west slopes. This afternoon, with warming and gradual clearing, the snow cover will become moist. Especially in places with windpacked snow, with minor loading you can trigger small wet snow avalanches.
SNOW CONDITIONS
In the last two days there has been occasional light snowfall. 5 to 20 cm of dry snow fell on mostly hard base, more snow fell in eastern and southern mountain ranges and hills. During snowfall, northeast to southeast wind blew. Most windpacked snow is on south and west sides of ridges and saddles. Wind-exposed locations are icy in places, especially ridges.
FORECAST WEATHER DEVELOPMENT
Today it will initially still be cloudy and foggy, in the afternoon especially in high mountains it will clear. Light snowfall will stop in the afternoon. In the morning and forenoon moderate to strong east wind will still blow, which will weaken in the afternoon. Temperature at 1500 m around -1, at 2500 m around -4 °C. Tomorrow partly sunny with variable cloudiness. Weak east direction wind will blow, towards evening weak north direction wind will blow. Temperature at 1500 m around 3, at 2500 m around -4 °C. On Sunday initially partly clear with variable cloudiness, during the day cloudiness will increase. From midday and afternoon showers will start to appear. Snowfall limit initially above 1500 m. In the night to Monday it will snow, it will cool significantly. Windy.
SNOW CONDITIONS TREND
On Saturday and partly also Sunday due to significant warming on sunny, steeper slopes individual wet snow avalanches may release, especially in places with windpacked snow. Above around 1800 m avalanche danger will remain MODERATE, level 2, lower down low level 1. In high mountains there will still be slip danger. In the night to Monday snowfall is forecasted, however precipitation amounts are still uncertain. With possible larger snow amount, avalanche danger will INCREASE.
