Danger level 2 – moderate

Southern Julian Alps, Central Julian Alps, Eastern Julian Alps, Western Julian Alps, Kamnik Alps, Savinja Alps and Koroška, Western Karawanks, Central Karawanks

Avalanche danger is gradually decreasing
Due to slight cooling and cloudy weather, the danger of wet snow avalanches has decreased.

There are still some areas in the high mountains with wind-packed snow, where under greater load a slab avalanche can be triggered. Weak layers in the snowpack also pose a problem. If the load exceeds the strength of deeper weak layers, a deep and large avalanche can be triggered. There are many such weak layers, especially on slopes above the forest.

Snow cover
Danger patterns
dp.1: deep hard weak layer
dp.10: spring conditions
The snow cover freezes at night, but softens during the day on sun-exposed slopes. This process will be less pronounced today. In the high mountains, the snow cover will remain frozen even during the day.

The old snow cover consists of layers of somewhat cohesive snow, which are mostly well bonded to each other. Deep below the surface in the old snow cover, several weak layers of facets and rounded grains appear.

Weather
Monday will be mostly cloudy, summits occasionally in fog. Minor local precipitation possible, partly showers. Snow level around 1500 m altitude, but precipitation amount small. Weak to moderate southwesterly wind blowing. Temperature at 1500 m around 3, at 2500 m around -3 °C.

Outlook
Tuesday will clear up. Faster in high mountains than in mid-mountains. No major warming. Danger of triggering snow avalanches will remain similar.
