Snow conditions 30.11.2018

28.11.2018
Danger is level 1 on the European five-level scale - LOW.
Main problem:
Danger pattern: Cooling after warm weather / warming after cold

Risk assessment
Avalanche danger is LOW, level 1. The snowpack is mostly stable.

Snow conditions
There is little snow in the mountains, slightly more only in the high mountains of the Julian Alps. The snow is heavily wind-packed. The snowpack is soft in gullies and sheltered locations, crusty elsewhere, the crust mostly does not support human weight.

Forecast weather development
Dry weather will continue. Tomorrow, Saturday, there will still be a temperature inversion, but the layer of cold air will be even shallower than today. Higher up the air will be dry. On Sunday and Monday it will gradually become slightly warmer, also in lower elevations. On Monday there will be transient light precipitation in the morning with snow line around 1400 m.

Tendency of snow conditions
The snowpack will transform and settle only slowly. The surface crust will strengthen. Avalanche danger will remain level 1.
