Danger level 4 – high

Large amount of new snow, snow drifts and weak layer in the old snowpack.
In the mountains, during the last snowfall episode above about 1500 m a large amount of new snow fell. Lower down it was partly snowing (wetter snow) partly raining. More dangerous are places where wind from southern directions built larger snow drifts. In shady locations there is a weak layer deep in the snowpack.
Spontaneous avalanche release is still possible, even larger ones. Slab avalanches possible. In current conditions we advise against visiting the high mountains!

Snowpack
Danger patterns
dp.1: deep persistent slab
dp.4: cooling after warm / warming after cold
On the weak snowpack a large amount of snow fell in previous snowfalls, newly fallen snow is poorly bonded to the old base. In the last two-day snowfall episode 70-100 cm of new snow fell in the high mountains, possibly more than one meter. Wind from southern directions built new larger drifts on lee sides of ridges. In the old snowpack deep and persistent weak layers are present. The snowpack is unstable.

Weather
Cloudy and partly foggy, in high mountains clouds will break. Mostly dry. In the morning moderate southwest wind, weakening during the day. Temperature at 1500 m around 1 °C, at 2500 m around -4 °C.

Outlook
Conditions will remain challenging in the coming days.

Danger level 3 – considerable

New snow, wind-drifted snow and weak layers in the snowpack in high mountains
In the mountains, during the last snowfall episode above about 1500 m a large amount of new snow fell. Lower down it was partly snowing (wetter snow) partly raining. More dangerous are places where wind from southern directions built larger snow drifts. Spontaneous avalanches will occur. Slab avalanches possible. Current conditions in the mountains are demanding.

Snowpack
Danger patterns
dp.1: deep persistent slab
dp.4: cooling after warm / warming after cold
On the weak snowpack a large amount of snow fell in previous snowfalls, newly fallen snow is poorly bonded to the old base. In the last two-day snowfall episode around 50 cm of new snow fell in the high mountains, locally possibly more. Wind from southern directions built new larger drifts on lee sides of ridges. In the old snowpack deep and persistent weak layers are present. The snowpack is unstable in many places.

Danger level 2 – moderate

More new snow and snow drifts in the highest parts of mid-mountains
In the mountains over the last two days above about 1500 m a large amount of new snow fell. Lower down it was partly snowing (wetter snow) partly raining. Wind from southern and southeast directions built snow drifts on lee sides, which can pose a hazard.

Snowpack
On the old snowpack, which was mostly thin, 50-60 cm of new snow fell above about 1500 m, locally especially in the south of the country more. Wind from southern and southeast directions built drifts on lee sides of ridges.

Weather
Cloudy and partly foggy, in high mountains clouds will break. Mostly dry. In the morning moderate southwest wind, weakening during the day. Temperature at 1500 m around 1 °C, at 2500 m around -4 °C.

Outlook
Conditions in the coming days will remain similar.
