Snow conditions 7.12.2018
7.12.2018
Danger is level 1 on the European five-level scale - LOW.
Main problem:
Danger pattern: Cooling after warm weather / warming after cold
Risk assessment
Avalanche danger is LOW, level 1. The snowpack is stable.
Snow conditions
There is little snow in the mountains, in the past days it has particularly melted on sun-exposed slopes. Somewhat more snow is only in the high mountains of the Julian Alps. The snow cover is mostly crusted, in places also hard.
Forecast weather development
Today it will be dry, moderately to mostly cloudy. During the day, a strengthened southwesterly or westerly wind will blow. In the late evening hours, precipitation will begin to appear in the west, spreading temporarily across all of Slovenia by morning and quickly subsiding from the north tomorrow morning. Initially, the snow line will be at around 1400 m above sea level, but it will descend. In the mountains, approximately 5 to 15 cm of snow is expected. Tomorrow during the day, it will clear from the north. On Sunday, partly clear with occasional increased cloudiness, short-term snow showers possible. A moderate to strong westerly wind will blow, which will weaken somewhat in the afternoon and turn northwesterly.
Trend in snow conditions
On Saturday, some new snow will fall, which the northern wind will blow into drifts. There will be little precipitation in our mountains, the amount of snow will also depend considerably on the snow line or how quickly the atmosphere cools. Since not much new snow is expected, the avalanche danger will only slightly increase in the high mountains of the Julian Alps due to new drifts and will be MODERATE there, level 2, elsewhere it will remain LOW, level 1.
