General avalanche danger - Friday, 7 April 2023
Danger is level 1 on the European five-level scale - LOW.
Main problem: wind slab
Danger pattern: Spring situation
Risk assessment
Avalanche danger is mostly LOW, level 1. The snowpack is generally stable and well transformed lower down. Wind-exposed locations are scoured to the old base.
Snow conditions
Due to cooling, the snow is dry and frozen. In scoured spots it is also hard and icy.
Forecast weather development
Friday partly cloudy, northwest wind blowing. Zero isotherm rises to around 1600 m above sea level. Saturday and Sunday cloudy and locally foggy. Occasional local precipitation, amount not large. Snowfall limit between 800 and 1100 m above sea level. 5 to around 10 cm of snow will fall. Sunday slight cooling. North winds already on Saturday. Monday partial clearing especially in the western part of our mountains, but also elsewhere clouds breaking up. Dry.
Trend in snow conditions
Avalanche danger will remain LOW, level 1. The snowpack will mostly remain frozen or dry, only on sun-exposed slopes it may moisten slightly on Friday and Monday, but not enough for significant deterioration of conditions.
