Avalanche forecast
Saturday, 7. 2. 2026

Danger level 3 – considerable

Large amount of new snow and wind-packed snow.
In the mountains, a large amount of new snow fell in the last snow episode. Below about 1800 m, more humid snow fell, lower down it was partly snowing partly raining. More dangerous are places where the wind from southern directions built larger snow drifts. At these places, we can trigger slabs with minor loading. In shady locations, there is a weak layer deep in the snowpack that can pose a danger, especially on sun-exposed sides. Slab avalanches are possible.

Snowpack
Danger patterns
dp.1: deep persistent weak layer
dp.4: cooling after warmth / warming after cold
In the last two-day snow episode, 70-100 cm of new snow fell in the high mountains. Below about 1800 m, the snow in the entire snowpack is moist and already quite well bonded together. Higher up, the snow is drier and less bonded. Wind from southern directions has built new larger drifts on the lee sides of ridges. In the old snowpack, there are weak layers deep below the surface that can be a problem in the high mountains on sun-exposed sides.

Weather
Mostly cloudy and partly foggy. Light precipitation will occur, partly showers. The snow line will be at sea level between 1200 and 1400 m. Mostly weak north winds will blow. Temperature at 1500 m around 1 °C, at 2500 m around -6 °C.

Outlook
On Sunday, there will be more clear weather in the mountains, the zero isotherm height will be relatively high, around 1600 m. The avalanche danger will temporarily increase, below 1900 m wet snow avalanches are possible. Creeping from steep walls and on steep grassy slopes also poses a danger.

Snowpack
Danger patterns
dp.1: deep persistent weak layer
dp.4: cooling after warmth / warming after cold
In the last two-day snow episode, about 50 cm of new snow fell in the high mountains. Below about 1800 m, the snow in the entire snowpack is moist and already quite well bonded together. Higher up, the snow is drier and less bonded. Wind from southern directions has built new larger drifts on the lee sides of ridges. Danger level 2 – moderate

More new snow and snow drifts in the highest parts of mid-mountains
In the mountains, over the last two days above about 1500 m, a large amount of new snow fell. Lower down, it was partly snowing (wetter snow) partly raining. Wind from south and southeast directions has built snow drifts on lee sides, which can pose a danger.

Snowpack
On the old snowpack, which was mostly thin, 50-60 cm of new snow fell above about 1500 m, locally, especially in the south of the country, even more. The snow in the entire snowpack is moist and already quite well bonded together. Wind from south and southeast directions has built drifts on the lee sides of ridges.

Weather
Cloudy and partly foggy, in the high mountains the clouds will break. Mostly dry. In the morning moderate southwest wind, which will weaken during the day. Temperature at 1500 m around 1 °C, at 2500 m around -4 °C.

Outlook
On Sunday, there will be more clear weather in the mountains, the zero isotherm height will be relatively high, around 1600 m. The avalanche danger will temporarily increase slightly, wet snow avalanches possible.
