Deep in the snowpack weak layers persist, during the day smaller wet snow avalanches
The problem consists of weak layers in the snowpack located deeper in the snowpack. If loading exceeds the load-bearing capacity of deeper weak layers, a deep and large avalanche may be triggered. There are many such weak layers especially on shady slopes above the forest. During the day in the mid-mountains and also in the high mountains on sun-exposed aspects, mostly smaller wet snow avalanches are possible.
Snowpack
Danger signs
dp.1: deep persistent slab weak layer
dp.10: spring conditions
The snowpack freezes overnight, during the day it melts particularly on sun-exposed slopes. At the same time the crust on the surface hardens and becomes thicker. Snow settles, snow layers have already bonded considerably with each other. With warming, snow on sun-exposed aspects transforms more intensively, this process is less pronounced on shady slopes. In the old snowpack deep below the surface multiple weak layers of facets and rounded grains form.
Weather
Initially mostly clear, during the day considerable shallow lenticular cloudiness with some summits occasionally in cloud. In the high mountains mostly light southwesterly wind, in the mid-mountains light wind from southerly directions. At midday temperature at 1500 m around 5 °C, at 2500 m around 1 °C.
Outlook
Weather and avalanche conditions will be similar in the coming days.
