Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 11.3.2022

The general avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is level 1 on the five-level European scale.

The snowpack is mostly stable and well-settled. On sun-exposed slopes, the sun has influenced the snow surface over the past two days. During the day, the snow has crusted or softened, and frozen at night. On slopes at lower elevations, the snow has also melted. On shaded high-altitude slopes, the snow is still dry and light. In some narrow couloirs, wind-blown snow persists. Here, the old snowpack has not changed significantly and remains stable and settled. Some shaded slopes are wind-scoured to hard or icy bases. Ridges are also scoured to bare or hard icy ground.

Today, it will be cloudy in the mountains above Tržič. The fog line will be around 1800 meters. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around -4°C, at 2000 meters around -8°C. A light northeast wind will blow. Tomorrow and Sunday will be clear. A light southwest wind will blow and it will warm up slightly.

The snowpack will remain stable through the weekend. On Sunday, the snowpack will soften slightly on sun-exposed aspects and freeze at night. On shaded aspects, it will remain unchanged, dry and hard. Some caution is needed in narrow high-altitude couloirs where wind-blown snow persists. Ridges will remain scoured and icy. Be careful to avoid slips.
