Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 1.4.2022

1.04.2022
Avalanche bulletin 55, Friday 1.4.2022 at 6:00 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.

The general avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič above 1400 meters is level 2 on the five-level European scale, above 1800 meters it is level 3 avalanche danger.

New snow fell on a softened old stable snowpack and has bonded relatively well. In the high mountains during snowfall, wind was blowing, transporting snow and building cornices and wind slabs. In the high mountains above 1800 meters there is slightly more snow and it is dry. On sufficiently steep northern slopes, some small dry loose snow avalanches have released. In the mid-mountains, air temperatures were slightly higher during snowfall and wetter snow fell, which bonded better with the old snow surface. At 1500 meters up to 25 cm of snow fell. With decreasing elevation the snow cover is also thinner.

Today it will be cloudy in the Tržič hills. In the evening, precipitation in the form of snow and rain will occur. The snow line will be today around 1400 meters. Overnight to Saturday up to 10 cm of snow can fall at 1700 meters, slightly less lower down. In the high mountains a SW wind up to 30 km/h will blow. Tomorrow too it will be cloudy with occasional precipitation. It will cool slightly. In the high mountains a moderate S to SW wind will continue to blow. The snow line tomorrow will be at elevations from 800 to 1000 meters. At 1500 meters up to 15 cm of snow will fall. On Sunday it will be partly cloudy and without precipitation. It will be even colder.

In the high mountains in the coming days a moderate S to SW wind will blow, which will transport snow into wind slabs and build cornices. On these parts a cornice avalanche can be triggered with additional loading of the snowpack. Conditions will be tricky! On areas with old snow cover on sufficient slope angle now covered by new snow the snow will be unstable, so be cautious.
In the mid-mountains there is less snow. New wetter snow fell on wet old snow surface, so on these parts it will be more bonded. Lower down there is less snow. Avoid walking under steep grassy slopes where avalanches usually occur.
Tomorrow, Saturday, there will be some new snow, which will additionally load the snowpack somewhat. S to SW wind will still blow, building avalanche problems mainly in the high mountains. On Sunday the wind will turn and blow from the north, so snow will deposit under ridges on S sides.
Avalanche danger will also be tomorrow and Sunday above 1400 meters level 2, higher in the high mountains above 1800 meters level 3.
The next local avalanche bulletin will be issued on Monday, 4.4.2022 in the morning.
