The general avalanche danger in the Municipality of Tržič area above 2000 m is MODERATE, level 2, and below 2000 m level 1 on the five-level European scale. From 10 a.m. onwards, the avalanche danger on steep sun-exposed slopes will slightly increase!
In recent days, the snowpack has stabilized further due to slightly higher daytime temperatures and frozen at night. Avalanche conditions have improved somewhat. On shaded northern slopes without sun exposure, there are still areas with loose snow in places, especially in narrow gullies. Ridges are wind-scoured to hard or icy bases. Wide slopes on shaded sides are scoured to rocky base in places, elsewhere to hard snow base.
During the day, small to medium wet cohesive snow slab avalanches have released spontaneously on sun-exposed slopes. At night, the snow freezes and stabilizes, but during the day, solar radiation softens the snow again and increases the density of the snowpack, contributing to spontaneous avalanche release.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, it will be clear. Air temperature at 1500 m around midday will be about +8°C, at 2000 m about +6°C, with S wind up to 30 km/h. Wednesday will also have fine weather. Air will be dry, visibility good. Air temperatures similar, wind will calm somewhat. Thursday more cloudy. Zero isotherm height will be above approx. 2800 m by Thursday.
Avalanche and snow conditions on shaded slopes will improve slowly. Higher daytime air temperatures and cold nights will bond the layers in the snowpack even better. Locally, there may still be areas with loose snow due to fairly low air humidity. Be cautious on these parts when transitioning from hard base to loose/dry snow. The snowpack in mid-mountain areas is warming through its depth, especially on sun-exposed sides.
On sun-exposed slopes, solar radiation during the day will affect the snowpack. Small to medium wet cohesive snow slab avalanches will occur from sufficiently steep slopes. Do not linger below such slopes or cross them! Avoid walking under slopes where cracks in the snowpack are visible! At night, the snowpack will cool and partially stabilize, and freeze on the surface.
Ridges will remain hard or icy, so there is a risk of slipping in these places. Use equipment suitable for such conditions.
