Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 14.3.2022

Avalanche bulletin 47, Monday 14.3.2022 at 8:00 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.

The general avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is level 1 on the five-level European scale.

The snowpack is compact and mostly stable. Yesterday, solar radiation affected the snow on south-facing slopes, where the snowpack surface softened or became wet, and froze overnight. On slopes at lower elevations, there is almost no snow left.
On north-facing slopes, the snow remained dry. A few small spontaneous avalanches of dry loose snow or sloughs occurred. Some wind slab snow remains in narrow couloirs. Ridges are wind-scoured to bare or hard snow base. During the day, the surface snow on high mountain ridges softened slightly, and froze overnight.

Today, it will be clear in the mountains above Tržič. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around +3°C, with light wind from NW to S directions. At 2000 meters, it will be around +1°C, with wind from S to NW up to 25 km/h. Tomorrow, there will be more clouds and it will gradually warm up towards the end of the week. Wind from SW to W will blow, which may bring Saharan dust during the day.

The old snowpack will be mostly stable today and tomorrow. Solar radiation will affect the snow on south-facing slopes. The snow will soften and become wet, and freeze overnight. Tomorrow during the day, air humidity will increase, affecting the snow on north-facing and northern slopes of the high mountains. We expect small avalanches of dry loose snow from sufficiently steep slopes, especially where there is wind slab. Ridges are wind-scoured to hard or bare base. Risk of slipping remains.
