Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 1.5.2023

1.05.2023
General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič above the forest line is MODERATE, level 2 on the five-level European scale. Below the forest line, it will be LOW, level 1.

In the past days, the snowpack has mostly been wet. Wet snow avalanches have been releasing spontaneously during the day on all slopes, regardless of aspect. The snowpack is wet throughout its depth. On sun-exposed slopes, snow melts quickly, especially during prolonged solar radiation. Bare areas are increasing even in the high mountains. On shady, north-facing slopes, snow melts somewhat slower.

Today it will be moderately cloudy. In the morning, the sun will still shine. Air temperature at 1500 m will be around 6°C, at 2000 m around +2°C. In the high mountains, a light SE to S wind will blow. Tonight into Tuesday, it will start raining. Tomorrow, Tuesday, it will be cloudy and rainy. Zero isotherm height above 2100 m. On Wednesday, precipitation will stop. It will partly clear. The rest of the week will be warmer. Zero isotherm height will rise.

Snow will remain wet this week and will melt. Due to rain and higher temperatures, snowpack density will increase. There is a high probability of cornice collapse, so be careful when walking under ridges or slopes where cornices are visible above you. We expect wet snow avalanches to release spontaneously. Many sun-exposed slopes are already bare. Little or no snow below 1300 m.
Avalanche danger above forest line will be level 2 this week, lower level 1. Slightly higher danger during precipitation. Choose objectives suitable for current conditions. In the high mountains on shady slopes in the Municipality of Tržič, there is still a lot of snow.
