General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is level 2 on the five-level European scale. Below 2000 meters, it is level 1 on the five-level scale.
In the last two days, temperatures in the high mountains were still below freezing, so the wind carried dry snow in small quantities and built new wind slab areas. On these parts, you could trigger a small wind slab avalanche with additional load. Wind-drifted snow is held in narrow gullies and saddles. During the day, sun-exposed slopes softened superficially. In the shade, the snow remained frozen. Shady slopes remained icy. At night, the snow froze on all aspects.
Wide slopes and ridges are wind-scoured to hard or icy snow base or bare ground. Below 1200 meters, there is little or almost no snow left.
Today, it will be partly clear in the Tržič hills. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around +4°C at midday, at 2000 meters around +3°C. Weak S to W wind will blow. Tomorrow morning it will be clear weather, in the afternoon partly cloudy. Air temperature at 1500 meters around +7°C, at 2000 meters around +4°C. On Sunday, more cloudiness. Temperatures will be similar to Saturday's. Zero isotherm height will be above 2700 meters in the coming days.
The snow cover froze overnight on all slopes and elevations. On northern slopes above approximately 1800 meters in narrow gullies, the snow remained dry. Wind slab areas have formed there in the past days. With additional load, you could still trigger a wind slab avalanche today and tomorrow. All south-facing slopes and sun-exposed areas will soften during the day. On south-facing slopes, wet cohesive snow avalanches can release spontaneously, but they will be small. On shady areas, the snow will remain frozen. There is a risk of slipping there. Use equipment suitable for such conditions. Ridges will be icy in the morning. Due to higher temperatures and solar radiation in the coming days, there is a risk of cornice collapse, so do not linger under start zones.
In the mid-mountains, below 1400 meters, the snow will juicier and melt faster. Below 1200 meters, there is little snow, in places none left.
Avalanche danger will thus be level 2 above 2000 meters in the coming days, level 1 below 2000 meters.
