The general avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič above 1800 meters is level 2 on the five-level European scale. Below 1800 meters it is level 1.
The snow is slowly settling and metamorphosing. In the old snowpack, there are still weak layers above 1800 meters. With additional heavy loading, these layers can separate. In narrow gullies and saddles on leeward sides, there are still deposits of wind-blown snow. Lower down, below 1800 meters, the snowpack is mostly reworked and the layers are bonded. In its depth, the snow is still moist. Due to fairly high temperatures even in the high mountains, the snowpack is slightly moist.
From sufficiently steep slopes, some small new snow avalanches have released in the last few days, which were not yet bonded to the old snowpack. Caution is still required when transitioning from shallow to deeper snow in shaded locations.
Today, the air temperature at 1500 meters at midday will be around +2°C, in the morning a light W to SW wind will blow, and in the afternoon it will strengthen somewhat. At 2000 meters, the midday temperature will be around +1°C. A moderate W wind up to 30 km/h will blow.
Tomorrow, on Friday, it will warm up a bit more. The temperature at 1500 meters will be around 5°C, at 2000 meters around +4°C. A moderate westerly wind will blow. Temperatures on Saturday will be very similar, and the wind will calm down somewhat.
The snowpack will continue to settle and metamorphose slowly, even in the high mountains. Above 1800 meters in narrow gullies and leeward locations, there are still areas with wind-blown snow that are not stable enough. On these sections, with additional heavy loading, a snow avalanche can be triggered. On steep grassy slopes, small to medium snow avalanches are possible. Lower down, below 1800 meters, the snowpack will bond more and stabilize. Overnight, a thin crust may form that will not hold human weight.
Already today and in the following days, it will warm up further during the daylight hours, which will affect the snowpack. Avalanche conditions will also change somewhat. Some spontaneous avalanching is expected on sunny steep grassy slopes, as in addition to higher temperatures, increased air humidity and solar radiation will also influence. Release of slab avalanches from sufficiently steep grassy slopes is not ruled out. Do not linger below them, nor cross them!
