Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 18.4.2022
18.04.2022
Avalanche bulletin 61, Monday 18.4.2022 at 11:00 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.
The general risk of snow avalanches in the area of the Municipality of Tržič above 1300 meters is level 1 on the five-level European scale.
The old snow cover has been melting slowly during the day. This process slows down overnight, as temperatures have been below freezing for the last two days. In the high mountains, the snow cover has refrozen. South or sun-exposed slopes are mostly bare even in the high mountains. Wind-blown snow persists in depressions and narrow gullies. It is somewhat different on the northern sides, but even there the snow is already melting during the day. Locally on these parts, the snow cover will remain into the summer for a long time, so be careful when crossing such snowfields to avoid slipping.
This morning it will still be clear in the mountains above Tržič, cloudy in the afternoon. Air temperature at noon at 1500 meters will be around 2°C. At 2000 meters around -4°C, with S to NE wind up to 30 km/h. Tomorrow it will be cloudy with precipitation. The snow line will be around 1100 meters. There will not be much snow precipitation. Also during the rest of the week until Friday, occasional precipitation is possible. Rain lower down, snow higher up. From Saturday onwards, air temperatures will be higher. Also more sun.
Due to lower air temperatures today and until mid-week, the snow cover will be hard in shady locations. Some snow will fall in the high mountains. Amounts will be small. The risk of snow avalanches will remain at level 1. Somewhat higher air temperatures are expected from Thursday onwards, when the snow will melt faster again. This process will be faster on sun-exposed sides, where individual small ground snow avalanches are not excluded. Below 1200 meters there is almost no snow left.
On some shaded high mountain locations, snow will remain through the summer. When crossing snowfields, use equipment suitable for that!!
Stay safe and happy until the next winter season 2022/2023.
