Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 19.1.2022

Avalanche Bulletin 25, Wednesday 19.1.2022 at 5:00 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.

General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič below 2000 m a.s.l. is 1st degree on the five-level European scale, above 2000 m locally 2nd degree on the five-level European scale.

The snowpack has stabilized even more in the past days. Layers are generally well bonded. Ridges and certain slopes are wind-packed to hard, bare or icy base. Shady slopes are partly hard, locally also icy. There are still slopes where the snow is still loose. In narrow couloirs or under cliffs on shady sides there is locally still wind-drifted snow. At these places, slab avalanches could be triggered with significant additional stress. During the day, snow on sunny sides softened slightly or became surface wet, at night it froze.

Today it will be clear in the Tržič mountains. Air temperature at 1500 m will be around 0°C, west wind up to 15 km/h. At 2000 m air temperature during the day around +1°C, west wind up to 20 km/h. Tomorrow slightly more cloudy and colder. In the high mountains NW wind up to 30 km/h. On Friday even colder. In the morning possible snow shower. Precipitation amounts will be small.

The snowpack will remain stable in the coming days as well. Today's sun will not affect the snowpack much, except superficially on sunny sides where it will become wet during the day and freeze at night. Above 2000 m on shady sides there are locally still snow deposits, especially in narrow couloirs and under cliffs. On these parts there is locally 2nd degree avalanche danger. Ridges will remain hard or icy, so we warn of the risk of slipping. Tomorrow Thursday it will be colder and the sun will not affect the snow surface much.
