General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is level 1 on the five-level European scale. Above 2000 meters it is level 2.
Over the weekend, the atmosphere warmed up and the snow cover was wet during the day. At night, it surface froze. At lower altitudes, the snow melted faster. Even in the high mountains, the snow was surface softened during the day. Small wet bonded snow avalanches occurred on all slopes, triggering spontaneously. On Sunday, a SW wind blew with gusts up to 50 km/h, bringing humid air and strongly affecting the snow cover.
Today it will be cloudy in the hills above Tržič. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around +3°C at midday, at 2000 meters around -1°C. NE wind up to 20 km/h will blow. Today there will be occasional rain, above about 1700 meters light snow. Quantities will be small. Tomorrow, Tuesday, partly clear in the morning, then clouding over in the afternoon. Warmer. Air temperature at 1500 meters around +8°C, at 2000 meters around +3°C. On Wednesday, somewhat more sun.
In recent days, snow has been melting during the day, much faster in the mid-mountains at lower altitudes. At night, the snow surface froze. In the coming days, daytime temperatures will remain quite high. Snow will be softened and will also melt. Today, Monday, some precipitation is expected. The snow line will be around 1700 meters. Quantities will be small and will not greatly affect avalanche and snow conditions. Small wet bonded snow avalanches and gliding avalanches are expected to trigger spontaneously during the day on all high mountain slopes. Below 1300 meters there is little snow.
Overall, the snow cover is settled and stable. Critical layers in the snowpack are still locally above 1800 meters, but the layers in the snowpack will bond even better in the coming days.
General avalanche danger will thus be level 2 above 2000 meters, level 1 lower down. The danger will increase slightly today, Monday, during precipitation, as rain will somewhat increase the density of the snow cover.
