Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 21.1.2022

Avalanche Bulletin 26, Friday 21.1.2022 at 6:30 a.m. for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.

The general avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič below 2000 m a.s.l. is level 1 on the five-level European scale, above 2000 m it is locally level 2 on the five-level European scale.

The snowpack is generally well bonded and stabilized. In certain high mountain gullies or below steep shady sides there may still be some wind-blown snow. Ridges are wind-scoured and icy. Solar radiation has had little effect on the snowpack on sun-facing slopes. On certain lower elevation slopes the snow surface has softened slightly, but froze overnight.

Today in the Tržič mountains it will be partly clear. Air temperature at 1500 m around -8°C, light northerly wind blowing. At 2000 m it will be colder and windier. Air temperature during the day around -13°C, strengthening northerly wind up to 40 km/h. Tomorrow Saturday somewhat more cloud cover. Wind will increase. Above 2000 m strong northerly wind up to 80 km/h. Still cold. Sunday also cloudy. Northerly wind continues.

The old snowpack will remain stable over the weekend. Outside temperatures are already strongly affecting the old snow. Northerly wind may still transport snow and build wind slabs. Snow will accumulate in small amounts in narrow gullies or below high mountain cliffs. In these areas with heavy additional stress you can trigger a wind slab avalanche. Some small amounts also on south-facing ridge slopes, but the wind will largely redistribute it. Ridges are scoured to hard or icy base. BE CAREFUL NOT TO SLIP!!!
