Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 2.12.2021

Avalanche Bulletin 3 for 2.12.2021 at 7:00 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.

The general danger of avalanche release below 1600 meters in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is level 2 on the five-level European scale. Above 1600 meters above sea level it is level 3.

In the last two days, the snow has only slowly begun to settle and transform, especially yesterday and during last night. Yesterday above 1700 meters, a strong J to JZ wind blew up to 40 km/h, with gusts up to 70 km/h. The wind transported snow and built wind slabs, cornices, and slabs. In leeward positions, there are huge soft slabs. In windward positions, the snow is blown off.

Today, it will snow in the mid-mountains and high mountains. At 1500 meters, up to 20 cm of snow can fall, the air temperature will be around -2°C, and a wind from northern directions up to 15 km/h will blow. At 2000 meters it will be around -5°C, and a wind from S to NW directions up to 30 km/h will blow. During the night to Friday, snowfall will gradually stop.

The snowpack is settling and transforming. The wind that blew in the last few days created wind slabs and slabs. On areas with wind-packed snow, a slab avalanche can already be triggered with additional minor loading. Today's snow will additionally load the old snowpack, especially below 1300 meters, when wet snow will fall at the start of snowfall. South-facing slopes, especially grassy ones, will also be dangerous, where small to medium-sized ground avalanches can release spontaneously. Above 1400 meters, dry snow will fall. On slopes with steeper inclination, especially in the high mountains, spontaneous dry snow avalanches may occur.
