Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 24.1.2022

Avalanche bulletin 27, Monday 24.1.2022 at 6:00 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.

The general avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is degree 1 on the five-level European scale.

In recent days, strong north wind has been transporting snow. It has deposited snow in smaller quantities in leeward positions, where it has mostly blown it away. Ridges are wind-scoured and very icy. The snowpack is generally well stable. Yesterday during the day, the temperature in the mid-mountains rose slightly. Wind and slightly increased air humidity have softened the snow surface. Overnight, a crust formed.

Today in the Tržič mountains it will be partly clear with some increased cloudiness in the afternoon. Fog may persist in the high mountains. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around -4°C, weak to moderate north wind will blow. At 2000 meters, air temperature during the day will be around -6°C, north wind up to 40 km/h will blow. Tomorrow, on Tuesday, it will warm up slightly. Air temperature in the mid-mountains will be around +1°C, in the high mountains around -1°C. North wind will still blow.

The snowpack will also be stable today. North wind will continue to transport small amounts of snow and deposit them in leeward positions on old icy or hard snow surface. Some snow will be deposited under ridges on the south side, but quantities will be small, as the north wind will scour it. Ridges and some slopes are icy. On these parts there is a high risk of SLIPPING, so be extremely careful. On shady slopes in the high mountains there are still areas with soft snow.
Tomorrow, on Tuesday, air temperature and air humidity will be slightly higher. During the day, the snowpack surface will soften slightly, and freeze at night. A crust will form. In the high mountains, north wind will still blow, transporting snow in small quantities.
WARNING:
Ridges are wind-scoured to hard and icy base. On these parts there is a high risk of SLIPPING. Please be careful and use appropriate equipment for such conditions!!! Also in the mid-mountains and on paths in forests, paths are icy and partially covered with leaves. Be careful!!!
