Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 26.1.2022

General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is level 1 on the five-level European scale.

Snow conditions have not changed much in the last two days. The snowpack is mostly stable. Yesterday, during the day, the air temperature rose slightly, so the snow, especially on sun-exposed slopes, became wet or softened on the surface, and froze at night. The wind did not transport large amounts of snow. Ridges are wind-scoured and icy. There is still some light and wind-drifted snow in shaded high-altitude slopes, mainly in narrow gullies and under cliffs. Elsewhere, the snow is hard and icy.

Today, it will be clear in the high mountains above Tržič. Fog will persist in the mid-mountains up to about 1200 meters. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around +2°C during the day, around -3°C at night. Weak NW wind will blow. At 2000 meters, air temperature will be around -1°C during the day, NW wind up to 40 km/h. Tomorrow, Thursday, it will be slightly warmer and the wind in the high mountains will calm down a bit. It will become cloudy.

The snowpack will be stable today and tomorrow. The sun on sun-exposed slopes will surface-affect the old snow. During the day, it will become slightly wet, and freeze at night. A crust will form. Ridges will remain wind-scoured and very icy. Be extremely careful not to slip!!! Conditions on shaded slopes will not change much. There are still areas with light and wind-drifted snow. In these areas, with very high additional load, you can trigger a slab avalanche.
