Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 27.12.2022

27.12.2022
General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is level 1 on the five-level European scale.

Fairly high daytime temperatures in the mid-mountain and high-mountain areas in recent days have strongly influenced the snow cover. The snow has softened and become wet during the day, freezing on the surface at night. The snow cover has also settled and transformed. In the high mountains, weak layers are still present in the old snow cover. Above 1900 meters, the snow is still dry in places. Wind slabs are present locally.

Today it will be partly clear. At 1500 meters, around +1°C, weak north wind blowing. At 2000 meters, around -3°C. Overnight into Wednesday, it will cloud over with some precipitation. Snow level around 1000 meters. It will cool slightly. Wednesday morning will be foggy. Temperature at 1500 meters around 0°C, at 2000 meters around -2°C. Weak southwesterly wind blowing.

Due to lower air temperatures, the snow surface will remain hard, icy in places. There will be a risk of slipping on parts. Today during the day, there is a slightly increased possibility of slab avalanches on sun-exposed slopes due to solar radiation influence, but no major avalanches are expected as air temperatures have dropped slightly. Overnight into Wednesday, up to 2 centimeters of snow may fall in the mid-mountain and high-mountain areas. Avalanche conditions will not change much. Weak layers are still present in the old snow cover in the high mountains. Under ridges on north sides, there are still areas with wind-blown snow. On these parts with heavy additional loading, you can trigger a snow avalanche. Tomorrow conditions will be similar. Weak wind in the high mountains above 1700 meters can transport snow to a small extent and build small wind slab areas. Still be cautious and observe the surroundings.
