General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič above 1700 meters is 3rd level on the five-level European scale. Below 1700 meters it is 1st level.
In the last few days, a total of up to 35 cm of snow has fallen at 1600 meters. Higher in the high mountains, there is even more. In the mid-mountains, wet snow started falling first. Up to an altitude of about 1700 meters, it bonded better with the old wet snow surface. Higher in the high mountains, snow fell on a hard, locally also icy surface and bonded very poorly. Snowfall in the high mountains was initially accompanied by westerly wind with gusts up to 50 km/h, later the wind changed direction and blew from the north with gusts up to 40 km/h. It cooled quickly, so the snow line was around 900 meters. Below 1200 meters there is less snow. Ridges are wind-blown to old or almost bare ground due to the wind. Some wide northern slopes are also blown to rocky or old snow base. The wind deposited snow in leeward positions, in narrow gullies, under ridges and built avalanche problems. On these parts above 1800 meters, the snow is very unstable.
Today, mostly cloudy weather will prevail. In the morning, NE wind will blow, in the afternoon moderate to strong northerly wind. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around +0°C at noon, at 2000 meters around -4°C. Tomorrow clear. It will cool down. In the morning, the zero isotherm height will be around 400 m a.s.l. Air temperature at 1500 meters around -4°C, at 2000 meters around -9°C. In the high mountains, NW wind up to 40 km/h. On Wednesday cloudy. In the high mountains westerly wind. Slightly warmer.
The snow cover will not transform much today and tomorrow in the high mountains. The wind will continue to redistribute snow and build new wind slab areas. On these parts, you can already trigger wind slab avalanches with additional stress. Ridges will be wind-blown and icy all the way to mid-heights.
In the mid-mountains, below about 1400 meters, the snow cover will soften today. From sufficiently steep slopes of the high mountains and mid-mountains, wind slab avalanches can release spontaneously. Wind slabs and slab areas have also formed in the mid-mountains.
Avalanche danger will be today and locally also tomorrow above 1700 meters PERSISTENT, 3rd level. Tomorrow, on Tuesday and Wednesday above 1700 meters general avalanche danger 2nd level.
Below 1800 meters 1st level. Below 1300 meters less snow fell and avalanche conditions have not changed much.
