Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 28.1.2022
28.01.2022
Avalanche bulletin 29, Monday 28.1.2022 at 5:00 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.
The general danger of snow avalanche release in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is level 1 on the five-level European scale.
The old snow cover is stable and well bonded. The NW wind, which blew over the past two days, transported snow in very small quantities and deposited it on the SW sides of ridges. On some parts of narrow gullies on shaded slopes, there is still light snow. Elsewhere, the snow cover softened somewhat during the day due to solar radiation, froze at night, and a crust formed. In general, the snow is hard or icy. Ridges are additionally wind-packed and additional icy areas have formed. The snow cover on shaded slopes is generally very well bonded, as snow temperatures through the depth have been between -1°C and -4°C for a week. On sunny slopes, there is an icy or hard layer of old snow about 10 cm thick, which formed due to solar radiation and is also bonded to the adjacent layer.
Today in the mountains above Tržič it will be partly clear during the day. In the afternoon, clouds will start to gather. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around -4°C, with a strong NW wind blowing. At 2000 meters, around -8°C. NW wind will blow at speeds up to about 55 km/h. Tomorrow there will be more clouds. Air temperatures will be noticeably higher than today, with NW wind still blowing. Sunday will have similar weather with slightly higher temperatures. Zero isotherm height will be around 1700 m a.s.l. NW wind will blow.
The snow cover will also remain stable over the weekend. It will soften somewhat on Sunday, but only superficially. The NW wind blowing in the coming days will transport light snow in small quantities mainly in the high mountains. There is a slightly higher probability of triggering a snow avalanche only on sections with wind-deposited snow, but only with great additional loading of the snow cover. Ridges will remain very icy. Watch out not to slip!!!!
Below 1000 meters, there is no avalanche danger.
