Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 3.1.2022

3.01.2022
Avalanche bulletin 17, Monday 3.1.2022 at 7:30 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.

General avalanche danger in the Municipality of Tržič area is 1st degree on the five-level European scale. Locally above 1800 meters it is 2nd degree on the five-level European scale.

The snowpack is generally well bonded and stable. Snow has melted on sun-exposed slopes due to solar radiation. In many places it has melted down to the ground. On these parts, individual ground avalanches have released spontaneously. Overnight the snowpack has become harder and more stable. Due to low air humidity on shady slopes, the snow surface is already hard and icy in the mid-mountain area and has remained so during the day.

Today in the Tržič mountains it will be partly clear. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around +5°C, in the morning a light northerly wind, in the afternoon a light southerly wind. At 2000 meters around +3°C, with a westerly wind up to 15 km/h. Tomorrow more cloudiness. Air temperatures will drop and the wind will strengthen. On Wednesday new precipitation is expected.

Shady slopes:
On shady slopes the snowpack is mostly stable. In certain areas (narrow gullies, saddles) wind-packed snow still lingers. On these parts with significant additional load a slab snow avalanche can still be triggered, hence locally 2nd degree avalanche danger on these parts. Elsewhere the snow surface will remain hard and frozen.
Be careful here as there is a high risk of slipping. Use equipment appropriate to the conditions.
Sun-exposed slopes:
Today's solar radiation and slightly lower temperatures will not greatly affect sun-exposed slopes or the snowpack, but caution is still needed as due to visible cracks the snowpack is locally very unstable. Nevertheless, avoid walking under these slopes.

Even at 1st degree avalanche danger avalanches are possible. Avalanches can generally be triggered on sufficiently steep terrain (>40°) with large or greater additional load.
From Tuesday to Wednesday night precipitation and stronger wind are expected. Avalanche danger will increase.
