General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič above the forest line is CONSIDERABLE, 3rd degree, below the forest line 2nd degree on the five-degree European scale.
The snow cover in the high mountains on shady sides is still loose. In the past days, the snow has settled slowly. Wind has transported it in small quantities. In narrow couloirs on shady sides above 1700 m there is still a lot of wind-drifted snow. Due to low temperatures and low air humidity, it has transformed very slowly. On these parts above 1700 m there are weak layers in the snow cover. Ridges are wind-scoured to hard base.
Due to solar radiation, the snow cover on sunny sides has crusted and become heavy. From steep slopes with grassy base, ground avalanches have released spontaneously in the past two days. At night, when temperatures drop, the snow freezes and is more stable.
In the mid-mountains, the snow cover has transformed and settled faster due to temperature fluctuations (warm days, cold nights).
Today, air temperature at 1500 m around noon will be about +2°C, weak SW wind. Morning partly clear, afternoon clouding over. At 2000 m about -3°C, NW wind up to 40 km/h. Tomorrow, Saturday, clear in the morning. Air temperature at 1500 m about -3°C, moderate northerly wind. At 2000 m about -6°C. Northerly wind stronger, gusting to 70 km/h in the morning. Afternoon wind calms. Night to Sunday some precipitation. Snow line around 1000 m. Sunday more clouds.
In high mountains on shady sides above 1700 m, snow and avalanche conditions will remain almost unchanged. Low temperatures and fairly low air humidity will slow snow transformation. Northerly wind will again transport dry snow and build areas with avalanche problems. Weak layers in the snow cover. On parts with wind-drifted snow, you can trigger a snow avalanche already with additional load on the snow cover. Sunny exposure will affect sunny slopes. Especially tomorrow, when temperatures are slightly higher, spontaneous ground avalanches will release from sufficiently steep grassy slopes. Walking under such slopes will be dangerous already today and especially tomorrow!!!
In mid-mountains below 1500 m, the snow cover will settle and transform faster. Mostly stable on shady spots. On certain sunny slopes with grassy base and sufficient steepness, ground avalanches will also occur here today and tomorrow. Be careful and avoid walking under such slopes!!!
