Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 4.3.2022

Avalanche Bulletin 44, Friday 4.3.2022 at 5:30 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.

General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is 1st degree on the five-level European scale.

The snow cover is mostly well-settled and stable on all slopes. Some wind-blown snow is still present in narrow gullies and under north faces of the high mountains. On sun-exposed slopes, the sun on Thursday and yesterday somewhat affected the snow surface. The snow softened and melted, then froze overnight. On shaded slopes, it remained dry. Ridges are wind-scoured to hard or icy base. The north wind that blew last week transported or removed snow in small quantities. Some wind slabs formed.

Today in the Tržič mountains it will be clear and cold. In the afternoon, it will become partly cloudy. Air temperature at 1500 m around -6°C, NE wind up to 20 km/h. At 2000 m around -10°C, NE wind up to 30 km/h. Tomorrow more cloudiness and even colder. Sunday also cloudy, air temperature at 1500 m around -10°C, NE wind up to 20 km/h. At 2000 m around -12°C, wind NE to W up to 30 km/h.

The snow cover will remain stable in the coming days, so avalanche danger is 1st degree. Due to low temperatures, snow on shaded slopes of the high mountains will remain dry. Today's sun may somewhat soften the snow cover surface on sun-exposed slopes. From tomorrow onwards, even there (sun-exposed slopes) the snow surface will remain frozen. Some wind-blown snow is still present in narrow gullies and under cliffs, but quantities are small. Ridges and some slopes are wind-scoured to hard or icy base. At these spots, there is a risk of sliding.
Avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič will remain 1st degree until Monday.
