Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 5.4.2023

5.04.2023
The general avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič will be LOW, 1st degree on the five-level European scale.

The snowpack has hardened due to low temperatures, low air humidity, and northerly winds. Low temperatures have also affected the depth of the snowpack, causing it to freeze. Overall, the snowpack is compact and stable. Weak layers are still present in the high mountains, on northern slopes in the old snowpack. Ridges and slopes are icy. In narrow gullies on shaded aspects, a crust has formed locally that does not support human weight.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, there will be clear weather. In the high mountains, NE winds up to 30 km/h will continue. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around -6°C midday, at 2000 meters around -9°C. On Thursday morning it will be cold, but during the day the atmosphere will start to warm slowly. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around -2°C, at 2000 meters around -5°C. In the morning, northerly winds up to 30 km/h will blow, weakening slightly in the afternoon.

The snowpack will remain compact and mostly stable over the next two days. On shaded aspects and narrow gullies where wind has deposited snow in recent days, the snow may still be soft in depth. A crust has formed on the surface. Elsewhere, the snow is frozen, ridges are icy, so use equipment suitable for such conditions. On Thursday afternoon, it will warm slightly, so solar radiation will affect mid-mountain SW to W slopes more, where surface snow will soften slightly. Other slopes will remain hard and icy.
The general avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič will be LOW, 1st degree on the five-level European scale until Friday morning.
