Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 6.12.2021

Avalanche bulletin 5 for 6.12.2021 at 7:00 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.

The general avalanche danger in the Municipality of Tržič area above 1200 meters is 3rd degree on the five-level European scale. Below 1200 meters it is 2nd degree on the 5-level European scale. Above 1700 meters it can locally be 4th degree.

In the high mountains yesterday during the day it snowed. At 1500 meters up to 30 cm of snow fell, more snow higher up. The wind that blew before the snowfall transported "old" snow and built wind slabs, cornices and wind lips. The new snow additionally loaded the unstable snowpack. The wind that transported snow during the snowfall created many new cornices. Wind-packed and wind-scoured snow is present on all aspects, regardless of aspect. On areas with wind-packed snow, an avalanche can be triggered with even minor additional load. On south-facing slopes spontaneous slab avalanches have released. In the high mountains, especially under ridges and in gullies, there is a huge amount of deposited snow. On these parts there is locally higher avalanche danger.

Today in the Tržič mountains it will be clear and cold. At 1000 meters around -2°C, at 1500 around -5°C. At 1500 meters wind from northern directions up to 30 km/h. The wind will transport snow and build wind slabs and cornices. In the high mountains, around 2000 meters, the wind will be slightly stronger. Along ridges it will build new wind lips. Tomorrow partly clear, still cold and the wind will calm somewhat. On Wednesday in the afternoon time expect deterioration and new precipitation.

Snow is settling slowly. Snow metamorphism is slowed. The new snow has bonded very poorly with the "old" snow base. The wind blowing today will still build cornices. Due to new precipitation and wind the current conditions in the mountains are very difficult. Even tomorrow the avalanche danger will not change and will remain CONSIDERABLE, in the high mountains on parts HIGH. From Wednesday onwards the avalanche danger due to new precipitation will INCREASE! On south-facing slopes there will be spontaneous slab avalanches, especially where the base is grassy or covered with leaf litter. Also on north-facing slopes spontaneous release can be expected, but on steeper slopes. Walking under these slopes can be dangerous.!! This week we advise against visiting the high mountains.
