Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 7.2.2022

Avalanche Bulletin 33, Monday 7.2.2022 at 8:00 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.

General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is level 1 on the five-level European scale. Locally above 1800 meters, level 2 avalanche danger.

The old snowpack is stable, hard and icy. No major changes in the old snowpack in recent days. On sun-exposed slopes, it has softened superficially. In the high mountains on the southern sides of ridges, cornices formed in areas with wind-blown snow. Last night, up to 6 cm of snow fell in the Tržič high mountains area. Snowfall was accompanied by strong westerly wind, which transported snow to NE, N and SE slopes. Smaller areas with wind-blown snow formed there. A lot of new dry snow was blown away by the wind.

Today in the Tržič mountains it will be cold and cloudy. At 1500 meters around -7°C, in the morning very strong northerly wind up to 100 km/h, in the afternoon it will calm down somewhat. At 2000 meters around -10°C, in the morning very strong S to NW wind, in the afternoon moderate to strong S to NW wind. Snow showers will still form today. The amount of snow will be small. Tomorrow more sun but cold.


The new snow that fell last night was deposited by the wind on NW, W and SW slopes. Smaller areas with wind-blown snow formed there. The new snow has not bonded with the old snow surface! Here you can trigger slab avalanches with additional load. Strong wind blew away a lot of snow. Smaller new snow drifts also formed. Tomorrow conditions will be similar. New areas with wind-blown snow will still form.
Locally above 1800 meters there is level 2 avalanche danger and in areas with steeper inclination (over 35°).
Ridges in the Tržič high mountains are wind-scoured to hard and icy base. We remind you again to be extremely careful to avoid GLIDES! Some mid-mountain forest paths are also icy and covered with leaves! Please be careful!!!
