8.03.2022
Avalanche Bulletin 45, Monday 7.3.2022 at 9:00 for the area of the Municipality of Tržič.
The general avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič is level 1 on the five-level European scale.
The snowpack has not changed significantly in recent days. Yesterday, snow fell lightly in the high mountains. Amounts were small. North to north-easterly winds transported snow in small quantities and formed small wind slabs. Overall, the snowpack is stable and settled. Some wind-blown snow remains under cornices and in narrow gullies. Ridges are wind-scoured to bare ground in places, or to hard ice in others. Sunny slopes are also largely wind-scoured.
Today, it will be mostly cloudy in the mountains above Tržič. Air temperature at 1500 m will be around -7°C, at 2000 m around -10°C. Moderate north-easterly winds will blow. Tomorrow, there will be less cloud cover and slightly warmer, but still cold. From midweek onwards, it will warm up a bit more. In the high mountains, light to moderate north-easterly winds will blow.
The snowpack will remain stable in the coming days as well. Winds will continue to transport snow in small quantities in the coming days. Ridges will become even more wind-scoured. From midweek onwards, the snowpack on sun-exposed slopes will soften or become wet superficially during the day and refreeze at night. On shady aspects, the snow will remain dry. Be particularly careful in areas with wind-blown snow, where additional heavy load on the snowpack can trigger slab avalanches. Some slopes and ridges are also icy, so there is a risk of slipping. Use equipment suitable for such conditions!
