Snow conditions in the area of the Municipality of Tržič 7.4.2023

General avalanche danger in the area of the Municipality of Tržič will be LOW, 1st degree on the five-level European scale.

The snowpack up to the highest peaks in the Municipality of Tržič on northern slopes is hard and stable. Ridges and slopes are icy. Some small avalanches have spontaneously released from southern slopes of the Košuta ridge, where solar radiation had an effect. Avalanches were small in size.
The snowpack has cooled in depth and the layers in the snowpack have relatively well bonded. Also, the ground under the more than meter-thick snowpack has cooled in sheltered locations.

Tomorrow, Friday, it will be mostly clear in the morning. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around 0°C at midday, at 2000 meters around -5°C. In the morning S wind will still blow, which will calm in the afternoon. Towards evening it will cloud over. On Saturday during the day we can expect some precipitation, a bit more in the evening. NE wind will blow. On Sunday it will be cloudy at first. NW wind may transport snow in smaller quantities in the high mountains. Air temperature at 1500 meters will be around -3°C, at 2000 meters around -5°C. In the afternoon it will partially clear.

The snowpack will remain hard and icy on northern slopes in the coming days. It will soften somewhat tomorrow, Friday, on southern aspects in the high mountains, where the sun will affect the snow. On Saturday there will be some precipitation. Northern wind will transport snow in the high mountains and build new small windslab areas. New snow will bond very poorly with the old, icy snow base. More windblown snow will be in narrow gullies under northern ridges and on southern sides of ridges. Windslab areas will be quite easy to recognize. Precipitation amounts will be small.
General avalanche danger will be LOW, 1st degree in the coming days. Locally on Saturday afternoon and Sunday in the high mountains above 1900 meters 2nd degree, but everything will depend on the amount of precipitation. Below 1300 meters there is little or almost no snow left.
